The Dance

Born in Dublin in 1865, William Butler Yeats spent much of his boyhood in County Sligo, with its rich folklore, breath-taking scenery and supernatural legends. Yeats skill as a poet, playwright and prose writer would earn him the Nobel Prize.

Today, from the profile of Ben Bulben to the shores of Lough Gill, the land that is County Sligo is still full of life. Walk through the woodlands, or stroll along the sandy shores and you will see the land that inspired Yeats.

With our roots in County Sligo, the Culkin School asks you to join us as we celebrate Yeats, celebrate Sligo, and celebrate the child in all of us...

To A Child Dancing In The Wind

DANCE there upon the shore;
What need have you to care
For wind or water's roar?
And tumble out your hair
That the salt drops have wet;
Being young you have not known
The fool's triumph, nor yet
Love lost as soon as won,
Nor the best labourer dead
And all the sheaves to bind.
What need have you to dread
The monstrous crying of wind!

The Music

"Music for a Found Harmonium" is by the band Patrick Street. The version we are using is from the "Joyful Noise" compilation available from Green Linnet Records.
